GENERAL

Lewe in Liefde has been experiencing a bustling period in our lives, marked by numerous new projects and the
ongoing commitment to support the economically struggling members of the community, irrespective of age, race,
or gender. Despite the limited progress in our financial situation, we remain steadfast in our determination to
persevere. It is worth mentioning that compiling the report was particularly challenging due to the significant impact
of load shedding on our activities. Nevertheless, we remain resolute in our efforts, embodying the mantra of “keep
on keeping on.” Our unwavering dedication to making a difference should serve as an inspiration to all.

EXISTING PROJECTS

Blue Ribbon
The bread donations from Blue Ribbon, although the numerous holidays have left us with challenges, enabled us
to continue handing out food parcels.
26 NPO’s are continuing to collect their bread from the Charity Shop.

Woolworths
Every Friday and Saturday, Woolworths at both the Mall and Town generously donates “almost expired” food to
our project. This food is distributed among our dedicated volunteers and also utilized in our Feeding scheme. On
Saturdays, the donated food is transported to the farm where we provide shelter for 13 homeless individuals.
Additionally, we have recently begun preparing soup on specific days, with the aim of meeting the criteria for a
“higher level” classification at Food Forward. This would enable us to receive a wider range of food items from
their provisions, further enhancing our efforts to support those in need.

Feeding Scheme (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
The distribution of food parcels is ongoing, with our team working diligently to ensure its continuity. Alongside
the food received from Woolworths, we also procure food from local factories and various outlets in town.
However, we are currently facing a critical shortage of non-perishable food items. As mentioned earlier, we have
taken the initiative to prepare soup for the winter season. Unfortunately, due to load shedding, our ability to
accurately record the number of beneficiaries on the data base has been significantly impeded.
We will continue our marketing efforts to appeal for food and financial contributions, especially as the demand
for assistance continues to grow. Once again, the Indian Community has generously contributed by donating
food, highlighting their consistent support and collaboration. We are grateful for their assistance as we strive to
meet the needs of our community during these challenging times.

Community Dignity Shop
During the months of March and April, the Dignity Shop experienced a profit of R12 148,74. This success can be
attributed primarily to the generous donations of high-quality clothing that were sellable. Alongside selling
clothing items, we remain committed to distributing clothes to the local community, ensuring that no donations
go to waste. Additionally, we respond to individual requests for clothing assistance by providing donated
garments.
Furthermore, our initiative to sell eggs from a paraplegic farmer is ongoing, contributing to our efforts to
generate income and sustain our operations.
In an exciting development, we are in the process of establishing a needlework corner to support an individual in
need of employment. This endeavor will allow him to mend identified clothing items and even design his own
garments, thereby creating a potential source of income. We are optimistic that this initiative will not only
provide livelihood opportunities but also empower individuals to showcase their creativity and skills.
Overall, our efforts at the Dignity Shop continue to expand, making a positive impact on the community by
ensuring dignity, providing employment opportunities, and supporting sustainable practices.

Farm project – Koinonia
Lewe in Liefde expresses profound gratitude for the opportunity to utilize a farm located at approximately 24
kilometers from Middelburg as a shelter for the homeless. At present, we are providing accommodation for 19
individuals at the farm.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to COMMS for their remarkable support in replacing the entire roof of the
house. In addition, they generously donated windowpanes and have secured a glass donation. As we have
entered the winter season, our aim is to make the house “winter-proof” by the end of July 2023. Any
contributions towards the renovation of the house would be immensely valued and appreciated. Several other
institutions –who do not wish to be mentioned in the report –donated a fully furnished kitchen, carpets,
gardening tools, fencing and even chickens.
Our long-term vision for the farm involves creating sustainability through the development of a vegetable
garden, raising chickens, and nurturing piglets. We are also dedicated to providing comprehensive farming
training to empower individuals with valuable skills. Resumes and curriculum vitae (CVs) of interested individuals
have been obtained, and we anticipate that some of them will secure employment opportunities in the near
future.
In addition to the ongoing efforts at the farm, it is worth noting that the ladies residing there have taken up
baking pancakes as a regular income-generating activity. This initiative has been warmly received by the wider
community, as it promotes a sense of empowerment and self-sustainability. By selling their homemade
pancakes, the ladies are able to contribute to the farm’s income and foster a sense of independence. Unlike
receiving goods for free, this approach allows them to actively participate in their own financial well-being. The
support and appreciation from the greater community have played a crucial role in the success of this venture.
The overarching goal is to establish a self-sufficient and thriving farm, providing not only shelter but also
fostering the independence and growth of those in need. The continued support and contributions from the
community will be instrumental in realizing this vision.
